Elise Christie is a British short track speed skater, who is famous with her successful career. However, she used to be under stress and depression, even self-harm during the toughest period of her life.
According to BBC Sport Interview, Christie shared her excitement when being recovered from the bad mood and anxiety status, thanks to a suitable treatment and medication. She encourage people to cope with the problem like the way she did.
The Scottish announced on social media last week that she has taken antidepressants for a treatment of two years to recover, while stopped the medication. Christie was known as the three-time champion of Winter Olympic. However, not many people or even her fans know that after the death threat at the 2014 Games, Christie has been struggling with anxiety. Years after, there are continuously injuries and personal issues that frustrates her and even makes her condition worse.
Christie was forced to be on bed for days, and fought hard to maintain a normal life, and found it hard to get things done. In the summer of 2017, she started to seek for help from psychologists, and came to antidepressants. She admitted that depression is not just a sadness, but an illness, and you have to use medication if you need it.
Christie said that thanks to the medication, she now can coped with dramatic emotions and control them. It helped her a lot before the 2018 Winter Olympic in Pyeongchang. The failure and the separation with her Hungarian boyfriend was totally the worst thing to happen at once, drag her down so deeply and even drive to some crazy thinking, like self-harm. Christie thought by speaking out, she can help more people who are coping with the same issue like her.
Thanks to the treatment, she now can gradually recover and shared with her fans. Hopefully, Christie can totally be good again and back to her next competitions.
